Description
Swab with white screw cap and sample tube containing 2 ml of SELENITE liquid medium for clinical stool samples or rectal swabs, designed for the isolation of Salmonella enterica and Shigella sonnei and to reduce the growth of other enteric pathogens such as Escherichia coli and fecal streptococci. The selenite present in the medium inhibits microorganisms other than Salmonella, particularly coliform bacteria and enterococci. Pseudomonas and Proteus are not inhibited. Dipotassium phosphate maintains a constant pH and reduces the toxicity of selenium.
